A handgun was recovered and a suspect was arrested when a vehicle, allegedly with stolen license plates, was stopped by police in Santa Monica, authorities said Tuesday.
The traffic stop occurred about 3:15 a.m. Monday in the area of Ocean Way and Bay Street, the Santa Monica Police Department reported.
“During the stop, a handgun was observed in plain sight within the vehicle,” according to a police statement. “The driver was subsequently arrested and later determined to have provided a false identity.”
The driver was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of firearm, having a concealed firearm in a vehicle, false impersonation and a California city warrant for burglary.
The person’s name was not immediately released.
