A pedestrian fatally struck by a vehicle in Torrance was publicly identified Friday.
The man was struck shortly after 5:25 a.m. Thursday by a 2013 Jeep driven south on Crenshaw Boulevard near 235th Street, according to the Torrance Police Department. The pedestrian, who was walking “outside of a crosswalk,” was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was 27-year-old Devonte Jones and was homeless, according to the Medical Examiner’s office.
The sole occupant of the Jeep, a 70-year-old man, sustained no injuries, police said. He remained at the scene and spoke to investigators.
Northbound and southbound lanes of Crenshaw between 235th and 237th streets were closed for about five hours while the investigation was conducted.
The case remained under review by the Torrance Police Department Traffic Division.
