Fourteen Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters will be honored Wednesday, with their names inscribed on the memorial wall for fallen firefighters.
According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the memorial service will start at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at 1320 N. Eastern Ave.
Officials expected to attend the ceremony include LACoFD Chief Anthony Marrone, representatives from the LACoFD Memorial Committee, the International Association of Firefighters Local 1014, and the Los Angeles County Association of Chiefs.
The ceremony will honor 14 Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel who died either on active duty, natural causes, or unexpected causes, including:
–Cpt. Michael H. Mercado, who died in the line of duty on Dec. 8;
— Firefighter James O. Taylor, who lost his life on active duty on Nov. 13;
— Firefighter-Paramedic Dustin Roberto, who died while on duty on Aug. 10;
— Firefighter Andrew Pontius, who died in the line of duty on June 14;
— Cpt. Henry H. Flores, who died while on active duty on April 8, 2024;
— Firefighter Jonathan Van Oeffelen, who died unexpectedly on March 24, 2024;
— Firefighter Ulysses Duran, who passed away on Jan. 4, 2024;
— Firefighter-Paramedic Joseph Gandara, who died on Nov. 3, 2023, from complications related to cancer;
— Firefighter Specialist William “Bill” Lenzen, who passed away on Dec. 28, 2023;
— Cpt. Kenneth Renz, who also lost his life to cancer;
— Firefighter Specialist Jeffery Windle, who died in the line of duty on March 26, 2023;
— Cpt. Arn Tretsven, who died suddenly on Nov. 15, 2022;
— Cpt. Steven McCain, who died unexpectedly on Feb. 9, 2022, and
— Firefighter Jonathan Flagler, who died while on active duty on Jan. 6, 2022.
