A motorist fled on foot after a crash that ended a short pursuit involving police officers in Culver City Tuesday, authorities said.

Officers attempted to pull over a black pickup truck at about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday near Sepulveda and Jefferson boulevards, according to PIO Jennifer Atenza of the Culver City Police Department.

The driver, exceeding 70 mph, refused to stop, lost control, and crashed near Green Valley Circle, flipping the vehicle onto its side and shearing a concrete light pole, Atenza said.

The chase took about 30 minutes, she added.

The driver, wearing a black sweater and red sweatpants, exited the pickup truck, hopped a chain link fence and fled into a nearby freeway embankment, she said.

Two passengers were detained and taken to a hospital as a precaution for minor injuries.

The vehicle was recovered as evidence and the investigation was ongoing.

Anyone with any information regarding the crash was urged to contact the Culver City Police Department at 310-253-6120, or jennifer.atenza@culvercity.org.
