The 24-year-old driver of a Nissan sedan was killed and a juvenile driving a pickup was arrested for suspicion of DUI after a crash in Cathedral City, authorities said Tuesday.
The crash occurred at 1:16 a.m. Sunday at Ramon Road and San Eljay Avenue, said Cathedral City Police Commander Nate Hanley.
Arriving officers found the sedan with major damage on the passenger side and a chevy pickup with major front end damage, Hanley said.
The Nissan driver was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. The driver was identified as Kevin Becerra of Cathedral City by the Riverside County Coroner’s office.
The driver of the pickup truck was a juvenile, Hanley said.
“The investigation revealed the juvenile was intoxicated and DUI was a factor in the collision,” he said. “The juvenile was arrested for DUI.” His name was not released because he is a juvenile.
