A 42-year-old motorist was killed Thursday when he slammed into a light pole underneath Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore.
Andres Virgen of Jurupa Valley was fatally injured about 3:30 a.m. at Main Street and Camino Del Norte, near the on-ramp to northbound I-15, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities said Virgen crashed into the pole adjacent to the I-15 underpass, though the specific circumstances were still under investigation.
It was unclear whether the gravely injured victim had been wearing a safety restraint.
Paramedics reached the location less than 10 minutes later and pronounced him dead at the scene.
