A man who investigators say was a suspect in a possible burglary attempt was found fatally shot in Lynwood, and an investigation of the shooting was underway Thursday.

Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Century Station responded to the 11000 block of Linden Street and Imperial Highway at 1:45 a.m. Thursday regarding a report of a burglary in progress, according to a Sheriff’s Information Bureau statement.

Deputies found an alleged suspect wounded by gunfire and he was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel, according to the sheriff’s department. It was not immediately clear who shot the suspect.

“During their investigation, homicide detectives learned approximately five male suspects wearing all black clothing entered the residence at approximately 1:26 a.m.,” according to the sheriff’s department. “The suspects became startled by the presence of residents and ran from the location. While fleeing, a suspect shot an unknown firearm at the residence. The suspects were last seen running northbound on Linden Street and out of view.”
