Two people were killed Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash on the Ventura (101) Freeway in Studio City.
California Highway Patrol officers and Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded at 2:25 a.m. Tuesday to the westbound 101 and the Hollywood (170) Freeway junction with the Ventura (134) Freeway, near the Tujunga Avenue exit.
According to preliminary findings, a black KIA compact SUV was stopped in traffic lanes for unknown reasons and two people inside exited the vehicle, said West Valley Area CHP Officer Cody Sturges.
“While the occupants were outside of the vehicle, a white International box truck collided with the Kia and the occupants,” Sturges said. “Both occupants of the Kia — one male and one female — were pronounced deceased on scene by LAFD personnel.”
The L.A. County Medical Examiner’s office withheld their names until family notifications were made.
A SigAlert was issued for the closure of all lanes of the northbound 101 Freeway at the Hollywood (170) Freeway and the westbound Ventura (134) to the northbound 101.
The closures lasted until about 6 a.m., when two northbound lanes were reopened. All lanes were reopened and the Sigalert was canceled at about 7:30 a.m., the CHP reported.
The crash remained under investigation, according to Sturges.
Anyone with information about the fatal collision was urged to call the CHP West Valley at 818-888-0980 and speak to Public Information Officer Sturges. After hours, please contact the Los Angeles Communications Center at 323-259-3200.
