A 12-year-old boy who was killed when the vehicle he was riding in struck a parked box truck in Sherman Oaks was identified Thursday by county authorities.

The boy, identified as Steven Gambaryan, was seated in the front passenger seat and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The crash was reported at 10:17 a.m. Wednesday in the 4400 block of North Woodman Avenue, near Moorpark Avenue south of the Ventura (101) Freeway.

The vehicle, a Lexus, struck the box truck, which was described as a delivery vehicle park on the street. It was unclear how fast the car was traveling.

Three other people were taken to a hospital. A woman and a 10-year-old boy, who were not injured, were transported as a precaution under standard protocol for fatal crashes, Stewart said. A third person, not involved in the collision, was transported for unrelated medical reasons, she added.

Los Angeles police and the mayor’s crisis management team were assisting the victim’s family, Stewart said.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division was investigating the crash.
