A woman has tentatively settled her lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles and the owners of the former Morrison Hotel property for injuries she alleged she suffered while attending a 2020 event paying tribute to the rock band the Doors, whose members named their fifth studio album after the downtown establishment that was badly damaged in a late 2024 fire.

Plaintiff Marcia McAdoo of Florida — the home state of Doors frontman Jim Morrison — brought the lawsuit in December 2021, alleging premises liability and negligence.

On June 12, her attorney filed court papers with Alhambra Superior Court Judge Ian C. Fusselman notifying him of a “conditional” resolution in the case with the expectation that a request for dismissal will be filed by July 26. No terms were divulged.

Attorneys for the city and the former hotel, which was being occupied by squatters at the time it was seriously damaged in a fire in December, denied any wrongdoing.

On Jan. 4, 2020, McAdoo attended the fourth annual “Day of the Doors” event at the hotel in the 1200 block of South Hope Street in which the building’s facade was restored to how it looked when it was captured on the cover of the band’s “Morrison Hotel” album, which was released 50 years earlier in 1970, according to the suit.

As she entered the hotel, she tripped on a damaged public sidewalk in front of the location, causing her to lose her footing, fall and suffer severe injuries, the suit stated.

The hotel had no signs or warnings people of the “unreasonably dangerous condition,” the suit stated.
