Police Friday are investigating a crash where a man was killed after the vehicle he was driving struck a tree, exploded into flames and split in two.
Los Angeles Police Department officers responded just before 2 a.m. Friday to the 17600 block of Victory Boulevard between White Oak and Encino avenues near the Sepulveda Basin Skate Park where they learned the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when he struck a curb and collided with a bank of trees, LAPD Officer David Cuellar told City News Service.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel, Cuellar said.
ABC7 reported the crash left debris strewn along Victory.
The LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division is investigating the collision and a section of Victory will be closed for an unknown duration during the investigation, police said.
