A woman dropped off a grenade she found in the desert at a Desert Hot Springs fire station, prompting a police response and assistance from the county bomb squad, authorities said Wednesday.
Officers were called to the station in the 65900 block of Pierson Boulevard on Tuesday after the unidentified woman turned in the device, according to the Desert Hot Springs Police Department.
Riverside County’s Hazardous Device Team was called to examine the item and determined it was inert and posed no threat.
“While we’re relieved this had a safe and uneventful outcome, let this serve as a reminder: if you find something that even looks explosive, don’t touch it and don’t transport it yourself,” the Desert Hot Springs Police Department said in a statement.
