Two women were injured Tuesday in a shooting at a Granada Hills residential day care facility in what police said may have been a case of domestic violence, and a suspect was taken into custody.

The shooting was reported about 12:30 p.m. in the 17300 block of West Firma Court, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. No children were injured.

The Los Angeles Fire Department reported taking two adult patients to a hospital with stable vital signs. Police said two women, believed to be in their 50s, were injured in the shooting.

The man suspected of being the gunman was taken into custody in the area of Balboa Boulevard and Sherman Way, police said. His name was not immediately released, but he was believed to be in his 70s.

LAPD Capt. Kathleen Burns told reporters at the scene the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting had been recovered. She said the shooting appeared to have been a targeted attack.

While the motive remained under investigation, Burns said, “We do believe it’s either some type of family violence or domestic violence.”

No other details were immediately available.
