A man suspected of elder abuse led officers on a 45-minute pursuit Tuesday in an allegedly stolen pickup truck, reaching speeds of up to 100 mph before being taken into custody in Venice after appearing to swing at one of the arresting officers.
The pursuit began around 11:15 a.m. near the San Diego (405) and Santa Monica (10) freeways in West Los Angeles.
The driver of the white GMC Sierra evaded spike strips and several PIT maneuvers as he sped across freeways and surface streets in Santa Monica, Pico-Robertson and Sunset Park.
Around noon, he pulled over near Venice Boulevard and Brenta Place, briefly exited the truck, then got out again moments later and aggressively approached officers. He appeared to swing at one of the officers before he was subdued and taken into custody.
It was unclear where the pickup truck was allegedly stolen from.
