Military ordnance was found Friday in a storage area on the USC campus, prompting a response from police and fire officials, though authorities said there was no threat to the public.
Officers responded to the 3600 block of McClintock Avenue about 12:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
A bomb squad was dispatched to investigate the item, described as a grenade, but officials determined it posed no danger, an officer told City News Service.
The Los Angeles Fire Department also responded with one engine, a rescue ambulance and a battalion chief.
Police confirmed the area was secure and no evacuations were needed.
After LAPD personnel determined the ordnance was inert, the area was cleared. The university later confirmed that access to the Downey Way parking structure had been fully restored.
The discovery comes two weeks after three Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were killed when a grenade seized in Santa Monica detonated at the Biscailuz Regional Training Center in East L.A.
