A 41-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly luring two women into his vehicle and sexually assaulting them in separate incidents, prompting an investigation Tuesday into the possibility of additional victims.
Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Bureau are investigating allegations involving two women and Luis Humberto Chinchilla Mejia. The alleged assaults took place between March 3 and May 17 of 2024, according to the LASD.
Meija allegedly targeted one of the victims on Sierra Highway and Avenue R-8 in Palmdale, while the other was approached in the 24900 block of Pico Canyon Road in Stevenson Ranch, sheriff’s officials said.
He was arrested Friday and booked into the sheriff’s Santa Clarita station, with bail set at $1.2 million.
According to the sheriff’s department, detectives believe there may be additional victims based on the nature of the alleged offenses and have released a photo of Mejia in hopes that they will come forward.
The case has since been presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Anyone with information about the alleged assaults, as well as victims wishing to come forward, was urged to contact the Special Victims Bureau at 877-710-5273 or specialvictimsbureau@lasd.org.
The bureau investigates cases involving the sexual and physical abuse of children and felonious sexual assaults involving adult victims.
