Los Angeles County prosecutors Tuesday declined to file any criminal charges against rapper Soulja Boy, who was arrested over the weekend for allegedly being a felon in possession of a handgun.
According to a charge evaluation worksheet prepared by the District Attorney’s Office, the rapper — whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way — was a passenger in a Tesla that was stopped by Los Angeles Police Department officers due to its tinted windows.
Officers “discovered a firearm in the rear seat” of the Tesla, but both Way and the vehicle’s driver denied owning the weapon, according to the worksheet.
Prosecutors declined to file any charges, citing insufficient evidence.
According to Los Angeles County inmate records, Way was arrested by officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire station at 2:50 a.m. Sunday and booked at 6:18 a.m.
The 35-year-old “Crank That” singer has had numerous weapons-related arrests and two convictions over the years.
He was also recently ordered by a Santa Monica civil jury to pay a former personal assistant $4 million after she claimed he sexually abused her and did not pay her overtime while also committing other wage and hour violations.
