A 27-year-old man suspected of shooting a motorist, then trying to rob him during a traffic dispute near Hemet was out of custody Thursday.
Kenneth Lamont Green of Hemet was arrested and booked into the Byrd Detention Center Monday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, making terrorist threats and attempted robbery. Green posted a $30,000 bond Tuesday and was released from the Murrieta jail.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, shortly after 9 p.m. Monday, the suspect and another man, whose identity was not disclosed, were involved in a fender-bender traffic collision on Highway 74, near the turn-off to Highway 79, just west of Hemet.
Sgt. Anthony Colace said that during the ensuing roadside confrontation, Green pulled a handgun and shot the motorist, inflicting a non-life-threatening wound.
“During the altercation, the suspect also attempted to rob the victim,” Colace said, adding that he fled the location as witnesses called 911.
Patrol deputies and paramedics reached the scene minutes later, after which the victim was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment. He was expected to make a full recovery.
Colace said as deputies were collecting evidence, “Green returned to the crime scene and turned himself in.”
He was taken into custody without incident.
