A man who was fatally struck by a hit-and-run motorist as he was exiting his own vehicle in Reseda was identified Monday by the county medical examiner’s office.

The fatality occurred at about 8 p.m. Friday on Victory Boulevard near Belmar Avenue, a few blocks west of Tampa Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The victim, identified by the L.A. County medical examiner’s office as Jose Portillo Hernandez, 35, of North Hollywood, had just exited the driver side of his parked vehicle when a black, compact SUV going westbound on Victory veered to the right and struck him. The SUV continued west on Victory before turning north onto Corbin Avenue, police said.

Arriving paramedics pronounced Hernandez dead at the scene.
