A 62-woman who was killed in a two-vehicle collision on the Artesia (91) Freeway in Compton was identified by county authorities Tuesday.

California Highway Patrol officers were called at 12:08 a.m. Monday to the eastbound freeway and the Alameda Street exit, where they found one of the vehicles had driven off the freeway with several victims inside and wound up on its roof, CHP Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service.

Responding Compton Fire Department paramedics worked for several minutes to free the victims.

Mary Cuevas was identified by the Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner as the deceased party. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP closed all lanes of the eastbound freeway while they investigated the circumstances surrounding the crash.
