A 58-year-old man suspected of prowling and looking through the windows of several residences in Santa Monica was facing misdemeanor charges Tuesday.

Calvin Otis Arnold was arrested Sept. 3, according to the Santa Monica Police Department. He was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail, according to jail records.

Officers conducting a crime-suppression operation in Palisades Park approached Arnold as he was entering a parked vehicle, confirmed his identity, and then placed him under arrest, police said.

“Two victims were targeted on more than one occasion,” according to police.

Several clothing items believed to have been worn by Arnold during the alleged prowling incidents were recovered, police said. Detectives have not determined if Arnold intended to enter any of the homes or make physical contact with the residents.

Arnold was charged Friday with eight misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct/peeking into an inhabited building, with all of the alleged incidents occurring Sept. 3, according to court records. He pleaded not guilty Friday and is due back in court Wednesday for a pretrial hearing.

Anyone with information regarding the case was urged to contact Criminal Investigations Division Detective Maricela Orta at Maricela.Orta@santamonica.gov or the watch commander at 310-458-8427.
