A 51-year-old man who was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on the westbound Ventura (134) Freeway near Toluca Lake was identified Thursday by county authorities.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as David Smith.

The crash was reported at approximately 12:11 a.m. Monday and California Highway Patrol officers responded to the westbound freeway and the Cahuenga Boulevard exit where they found the victim lying in one of the freeway’s middle lanes and a vehicle that was overturned on its roof, CHP Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service.

The two SUVs involved in the crash sustained both front and rear end damage, according to reports from the scene.

The CHP closed four lanes of the westbound freeway for several hours while they investigated the cause of the crash.

  1. Not wearing a seat belt apparently, how else could he been found lying in the middle lane of the freeway. Buckle up people, being thrown from a vehicle results in very hard landings.
