An investigation was continuing Monday into the death of a man who was shot while sitting on the patio of a Hawthorne sports bar, possibly the result of a drive-by attack.
The shooting was reported at 7 p.m. Sunday in the 13700 block of South Inglewood Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which sent homicide detectives to the scene to assist the Hawthorne Police Department in its investigation.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not immediately released.
KCAL9 reported the victim was shot in the head by a suspect or suspects, who fired from a vehicle from outside The Greatest bar. The station, citing relatives of the victim, reported that the man was sitting on the front patio of the bar with other members of his fantasy football league.
According to the report, a fight occurred inside the bar, and at least one person involved left, then opened fire on the establishment while driving away, striking the victim. The man who died was not involved in the original fight, KCAL9 reported.
There was no immediate word on any suspect descriptions.
