Authorities Thursday released the name of a shooting victim identified on social media as a rapper known in local hip-hop circles.

The shooting was reported at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of West Manchester Avenue, just east of Vermont Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers responded to an assault-with-a deadly weapon/shooting call and learned a man, later identified by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office as 32-year-old Izell Leonard, was involved in a dispute with another man in his 20s, according to the LAPD.

“The suspect fired multiple rounds, striking the victim, then fled in an unknown direction,” a department spokesman said, adding that Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

No detailed suspect description nor information about what led up to the shooting were immediately available. Police said it was not immediately clear if the violence was gang related.

Leonard was a rapper known as YCA Eighty Bands.

Detectives with the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Unit are investigating the killing.
