The California Highway Patrol Monday was investigating a two-vehicle crash near Lancaster that killed a 66-year-old Palmdale woman.
The crash was reported about 2:30 p.m. Friday on Avenue D at 70th Street West, according to the CHP.
Investigators said the woman, identified only as J. Karwowski, was driving a 2002 Ford north on 70th Street West when she entered the intersection and was struck by an eastbound 2021 Peterbilt truck driven by a 24-year-old Riverside man.
“For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Ford entered the intersection directly into the path of the Peterbilt, resulting in a collision,” according to a CHP statement. “As a result of the crash, Ms. Karwowski sustained fatal injuries.”
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to have been factors in the crash, according to the CHP.
Roads in the area were closed for about two hours during the investigation.
Anyone with information about the collision was urged to contact the CHP’s Antelope Valley Area office at 661-743-6060 during business hours to speak with investigating Officer G. Hernandez. After business hours, calls should be placed to the CHP’s Los Angeles Traffic Management Center at 323-259-3200.
