A suspect who led police on a chase that ended with a crash into another vehicle in Huntington Park Tuesday morning was taken into custody inside a garage he ran into after fleeing the collision scene.

It was unclear when and where the chase began, but a Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman said the driver was a possible robbery suspect.

As the SUV raced on local streets in Huntington Park and Bell at speeds topping 80 mph, the motorist drove on the wrong side of the road and did not stop for traffic signals, narrowly missing a pedestrian before colliding with two vehicles and appearing to clip another.

The chase came to a stop when the SUV crashed into another vehicle, sending both off the road at an intersection on Gage Avenue around 11:20 a.m. Tuesday.

The shirtless suspect then got out of the SUV and ran a short distance before ducking into an open garage with officers in close pursuit.

A few minutes later he emerged, handcuffed and in custody.

It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured in the vehicle where the chase-ending collision occurred or if any of the other drivers with whom the suspect collided were injured.
