A 27-year-old pursuit suspect who fell into a deep construction hole about 50 feet long and 4 feet wide in Lincoln Heights was rescued Thursday evening by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel.
After the suspect was rescued, he was taken to a hospital in critical condition, said LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.
Hollenbeck Division officers from the Los Angeles Police Department were in pursuit of the suspect, who police said was wanted for driving a stolen vehicle around 9 p.m., according to NBC 4. Attempting to evade the officers, the suspect fell into an approximately 30-foot-deep, 4-foot-wide vertical shaft at a construction site.
LAFD personnel from the department’s Urban Search and Rescue Team responded to the site 1821 N. Sichel St., between Main Street and Alhambra Avenue, where the teams lowered wristlets into the shaft and were able to direct the suspect to place them on his wrists, Lantz said.
The suspect was then lifted and fully freed from the shaft by rope and taken to a hospital.
