Two men were killed Wednesday morning, one of them by police, in the Lake Balboa area of the San Fernando Valley.
Officers were called at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to the 17200 block of Valerio Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
A department spokesman said there was a confirmed shooting involving police at that address, but released no specific details.
Another officer told KTLA5 that police had responded to a call of someone having a mental health crisis at the location. Police shot and killed one person, according to the station.
A Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman said crews responded after being summoned at about 8:10 a.m. by police who reported a shooting. The LAFD did not transport anyone to a hospital, according to department spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.
Two men, one believed to be 62 years old and the other 40, were pronounced dead at the scene, she said, but the fire department did not have information about how they were killed.
The LAPD did not immediately confirm initial reports from the scene that a man had fatally stabbed his father and was then fatally shot by police.
