A 46-year-old man suspected of possessing narcotics for sale, and being a felon in possession of a firearm remained in custody Saturday.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Colorado River Station attempted to conduct an enforcement stop of a bicycle in the 200 block of North Lovekin Boulevard, in Blythe, around 9:30 a.m. Friday.
The suspect allegedly failed to yield and fled north on Lovekin into an apartment complex, where he was ultimately located and taken into custody.
During the investigation, deputies allegedly located a backpack containing a loaded handgun, a box of ammunition and body armor along with more than a pound of individually packaged methamphetamine and over 62 grams of marijuana.
The suspect was identified as Eduardo Vazquez of Blythe, and he was later booked into the John Benoit Detention Center on suspicion of possession for sale, possession of a controlled substance while armed, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition.
Vazquez was being held with no bail option and was expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
The reason for Vazquez’s previous conviction was unknown.
