A man in his 30s was killed and four others were injured in a two-vehicle crash on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Sun Valley and an investigation of the crash is underway Wednesday.

Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters were called to the southbound freeway, near Penrose Street, at 9:53 p.m. Tuesday where initial reports said a pedestrian was walking in one of the lanes when the two vehicles crashed, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office reported he was a man in his 30s but withheld his identity pending family notifications.

A 42-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman were listed in serious condition and a 19-year-old woman and a 7-year-old girl were listed in fair condition after the crash. All were taken to hospitals for treatment, Lantz said.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert for the closure of all lanes of the southbound freeway near the Penrose Street exit for an hour while officers investigated the cause of the crash.

At 1:35 a.m. Wednesday, one lane of the freeway was opened.

All lanes were reopened about 3:20 a.m., according to the CHP.
