A Fullerton man was sentenced Friday to 17 years in federal prison for selling a fatal dose of fentanyl to a childhood friend.
Myles Ray Miller, 28, pleaded guilty Oct. 22 to distribution of fentanyl resulting in death and possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl.
Miller, who has been behind bars since his arrest in May 2025, faced between 14 and 17 years, with federal prosecutors recommending the maximum punishment to U.S. District Judge John Holcomb.
On March 18, 2022, Miller sold a dose of fentanyl to his childhood friend for $40, according to prosecutors. The two met near Miller’s residence in Fullerton.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Staples said in a sentencing brief that “selling a drug that kills its buyer is a serious offense. In mitigation, defendant did not intend to kill (the victim), his childhood friend.”
Staples noted that Miller “continued to sell fentanyl after learning that (the victim) died from a fentanyl overdose.”
The family of the victim, who was not identified, supported a 17-year sentence, Staples said.
