A standoff in Burbank with an armed suspect ended Friday morning with police taking the suspect into custody Friday after a standoff that lasted more than seven hours.
Burbank Police Department officers responded to an assault call around 7 p.m. Thursday on the 2400 block of North Naomi Street and Thornton Avenue. When they arrived at the scene the officers discovered the suspect, who was wanted for assault, had barricaded himself inside a residence, Lt. Derek Green told City News Service.
After failing to coax the suspect into surrendering, officers contacted the city’s Special Weapons and Tactics team, Green said.
The SWAT negotiated with the suspect for several hours and officers took him into custody just before 2:30 a.m. Friday, police said.
Residents who were evacuated earlier were allowed to return to their homes and no officers or residents were injured during the standoff.
