An armed barricaded suspect was arrested Wednesday after a four-plus hour standoff with Los Angeles County Sheriff Department personnel in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles near Florence-Graham.

Personnel from the LAPD’s Special Enforcement Bureau were called at approximately 8:34 p.m. Tuesday to the 6400 block of Converse Avenue and East Gage Avenue to assist Century Sheriff Station deputies with an assault with a deadly weapon suspect, said LASD Lt. Joseph Fortelny.

The special enforcement bureau team assumed tactical command of the barricade and worked with the department’s Crisis Negotiation Team to contact the suspect in an effort to convince him to surrender. Deputies evacuated several neighboring families during the standoff, the LASD said.

The suspect was subsequently taken into custody without incident and the residents who were evacuated were able to return home.

Anyone with information about this standoff is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Century Station at 323 568-4800. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
