The FBI and Los Angeles Police Department Tuesday announced a $1 million reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect wanted in a fatal 2019 shooting outside a barber shop in Sylmar.

Omar Alexander Cardenas, who is on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted fugitives list and is a suspected Pierce Street Gang member, is being sought for allegedly shooting 46-year-old Jabali Dumas in the head on Foothill Boulevard on Aug. 15, 2019, according to the FBI.

The increased reward, which had been $250,000 since Cardenas was added to the list in 2022, was announced at a Tuesday morning news conference where Akil Davis, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, and LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell detailed the crime, which took place in an outdoor shopping center.

Dumas died at a hospital on August 18, 2019, according to the Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner.

Cardenas was charged with murder and a warrant was issued for his arrest on April 3, 2020, officials said. He was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and a federal warrant was issued for his arrest on Sept. 2, 2021.

Authorities said Cardenas should be considered armed and dangerous. He is described as “white (Hispanic),” 5-feet-6 inches to 5-feet-7 inches tall, 240-300 pounds, with dark brown hair and brown eyes. He wears prescription glasses and has a beard, authorities said.

The FBI had previously said he may associate with the street gang known as “Pacoima Van Nuys Boys – Anybody Killas” and has used the nickname “Dollar.”

Anyone with information regarding Cardenas’ whereabouts was urged to contact the FBI at its toll-free tipline at 1-800-CALL-FBI (00-225-5324), or at tips.fbi.gov.
