Authorities Thursday were investigating a two-vehicle crash during a police chase in Pomona that left two innocent people dead and a suspect in custody.
According to multiple media reports, officers from the Pomona Police Department were pursuing a suspect in a black Dodge pickup truck traveling south on South Garey Avenue near Philadelphia Street around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday. The pickup then struck another vehicle at the intersection of Garey and County Road.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were called to the scene, where they pronounced the two victims — whose names, ages and genders were not immediately known — dead at the scene, Fox11 reported.
Broadcast reports indicated the deceased were in a silver Ford sedan that was struck by the suspect vehicle as the driver fled from police. Video from the scene showed both vehicles sustained significant damage, with glass, clothing and other debris strewn along the roadway.
It was not immediately clear why police were pursuing the suspect, who was arrested at the scene.
