A brush fire erupted Wednesday on the south end of Jurupa Valley, threatening multiple homes and burning over two acres as crews worked to contain it.

The non-injury blaze was reported just after 4 p.m. in the area of Yearling Way and Baldwin Avenue, just east of the Van Buren Boulevard corridor, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said engine and truck crews from the county, as well as the Riverside Fire Department, deployed to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate through medium vegetation in the immediate vicinity of homes.

Mandatory evacuation orders were implemented for properties on Yearling and nearby Gray Mare Drive, while warnings were declared for residential areas to the north and west of the fire.

Sheriff’s deputies shut down access to Yearling and several neighboring streets.

There was no immediate word on what might have triggered the brusher.
