A firefighter was injured while battling a fire at a recycling yard in Sun Valley and was transported to a hospital in fair condition, authorities said Sunday.

The fire was reported at 11:42 p.m. Saturday at 8250 N. Tujunga Ave., according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.

It took firefighters one hour and 17 minutes to knock down the flames using large-diameter hose lines, she said.

Fire companies remained at the scene overnight and used heavy machinery to move scrap piles and extinguish all hotspots, Lantz said.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power assisted with downed high voltage lines at the scene.

No additional information was released about how the firefighter was injured.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
