A Burbank police K-9 was being credited Monday for collaring two men suspected of breaking into an affluent hillside home and running when confronted by witnesses and arriving officers.
A witness called the Burbank Police Department at 7:30 p.m. Sunday to report seeing two suspects outside a home in the 2700 block of Scott Road, off Sixth Street, Lt. Derek Green told City News Service.
The suspects had broken a window of the home but “were spooked” by arriving officers and witnesses, Green said.
The suspects jumped a fence and tried to hide under bushes at a home in the 2800 block of Jolley Drive, he said.
Officers set up a perimeter and began searching for the suspects with the help of a police K-9, Green said.
The dog alerted to the suspects underneath a bush and “contacted” one of them with his teeth, the lieutenant said. The other suspect surrendered.
A third man was found in a vehicle near the crime scene and arrested, suspected of being a getaway driver, Green said.
Green said there has been a rise in residential burglaries throughout the region by organized theft groups, but it was unclear if Sunday night’s heist attempt was connected to any other crimes.
