A young man who allegedly snatched chains from three victims in Long Beach was free on bond Friday.

The crimes occurred on April 20 near the 1500 block of Martin Luther King Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Robbery detectives who investigated the case identified the suspect as Anthony Stevens, 19, of Long Beach.

He was arrested on Wednesday and booked on suspicion of robbery and possession of a loaded firearm, police said.

Stevens’ bail was set at $250,000 and he was released on bond on Thursday, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s online inmate records.

“Detectives believe there may be additional unreported incidents and encourage any possible victims to contact non-emergency police dispatch at 562-435-6711,” police said.

The case is now in the hands of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for possible criminal filing.

Anyone with information regarding the robberies was urged to contact the LBPD’s Robbery Detail at 562-570-7464.

Those wishing to remain anonymous can submit information through Crime Stoppers at (800)222-TIPS (8477) or lacrimestoppers.org.

To avoid becoming a victim of such robberies, police suggest:

— Remaining aware of one’s surroundings at all times and avoiding distractions like using a phone while walking;

— Walking in groups whenever possible, especially in the early morning or evening hours;

— Avoiding displays of jewelry or other valuable items when out and about;

— Staying in well-lit, populated areas;

— Holding bags and personal items close to one’s body; and

— Avoiding standing near curb edges where someone can grab property and flee. Standing near the curb also reduces the safety margin for pedestrians as vehicles whiz past.

Finally, police say to “Trust your instincts and seek help if you feel unsafe.”
