Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday were investigating the death of a homeless pedestrian who was hit by a UPS truck in Norwalk.

The collision occurred at 8:41 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Shoemaker Avenue and Alondra Boulevard. Deputies from the sheriff’s Norwalk station received a call regarding a pedestrian lying in the street, Deputy Daniel Dominguez told City News Service.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel arrived and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

He was later identified by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office as 57-year-old Arthur Honomichl, who had been experiencing homelessness.

The driver of the UPS truck was evaluated by firefighters and paramedics but was not taken to a hospital, deputies said.

Dominguez said the cause of the collision was under investigation.
