Police Wednesday released video of a horrific pre-dawn crash that killed a 52-year-old pedestrian in East Hollywood in hopes the public can help investigators identify the driver, who left the scene after striking the victim.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were called to North Vermont Avenue, just north of Eighth Street, at 3:45 a.m. March 27 and learned a white sedan being driven north on Vermont Avenue struck the pedestrian as he headed east across the road while outside a crosswalk.

The victim, later identified as Tommie Simpson III, whose place of residence was not disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, according to the LAPD.

The driver continued north on Vermont and collided with another vehicle before leaving the scenes of both crashes, police said.

Anyone with information about the fatal crash or the suspect was urged to call detectives at the LAPD’s West Traffic Division at 213-473-0234.

Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS or at lacrimestoppers.org.
