A Los Angeles Police Department motorcycle officer was hospitalized Saturday after he was involved in a crash on the Ventura (101) Freeway in Woodland Hills.

The crash was reported at 11:33 p.m. Friday on the northbound Ventura Freeway at Topanga Canyon Boulevard, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The officer was injured and taken to a hospital where he had stable vital signs, according to an LAPD spokesman said.

Details about why the officer crashed and whether any other vehicles were involved were not available, the spokesman said.

The CHP issued a SigAlert shutting down northbound lanes Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4 for the crash investigation and allowed traffic to proceed in the far right lane. The SigAlert was cancelled at 2:43 a.m. Saturday.

News video from the scene showed the mangled motorcycle pressed against the center divider as the CHP investigated the crash.
