International cyclists will compete next month at the VELO Sports Center in Carson during Summer Slam 26, a six-event track cycling series being promoted as a preview of competition ahead of the LA28 Olympic Games, organizers said Wednesday.

The event, scheduled across two weekends — June 26-28 and July 3-5 — will feature six UCI Class 2 international competitions at the indoor velodrome inside Dignity Health Sports Park, which is set to host track cycling during the 2028 Olympics.

“Summer Slam 26 is an exciting opportunity to showcase the VELO Sports Center on the international stage as we look ahead to the LA28 Olympic Games,” Adam Duvendeck, general manager of Dignity Health Sports Park, said in a statement.

Organizers said the competition will include sprint and endurance events featuring elite men’s and women’s cyclists from around the world competing for international ranking points.

Weekend one events will include “Keirin, Elimination, Madison,” sprint and omnium races, while weekend two will feature additional sprint, points and scratch races.

The event is free and open to the public.

Officials also highlighted the venue’s “Kids on Bikes” youth cycling program, which offers training opportunities for riders ages 8 to 18, including a free beginner-level weekly session.

The VELO Sports Center is located at Dignity Health Sports Park on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills.
