A man who sparked a brush fire in Woodland Hills by firing a flare gun during a fight with a neighbor has been arrested on suspicion of arson, police said Wednesday.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the brush fire in the 23000 block of Del Valle Street on April 2.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Topanga Station also went to the scene and identified the suspect as 43-year-old Roy Azimi of Los Angeles.
“A crime report was completed and forwarded to (the) LAPD’s Major Crimes Division,” according to a police statement that said detectives learned Azimi allegedly fired multiple flare rounds during a neighborhood dispute.
“One flare ignited vegetation near the victim’s home, sparking a brush fire,” police said.
Azimi was arrested on Thursday in Rosemead and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and recklessly causing a fire, with bail set at $80,000 according to police and jail records.
The case was in the hands of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Azimi, meanwhile, was being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility near downtown Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s online inmate records.
His next court date was tentatively scheduled for June 8 in Van Nuys.
