A mountain lion sighting disrupted a Santa Monica neighborhood Friday as police closed off some areas and urged residents to remain indoors while authorities attempted to capture the big cat.
The cat was first spotted around 8 a.m., and it was later seen hiding in the bushes of a home near 14th Street and Montana Avenue. The resident of the home snapped a photo of the lion resting in the yard.
“Out of an abundance of caution, officers are in the area assessing the report and working with appropriate wildlife resources,” Santa Monica police said in a statement on social media. “At this time, there are no reported injuries. Community members in the area are encouraged to remain indoors, and avoid approaching or attempting to photograph the animal if it is seen.”
State wildlife officials responded to the area to assist in efforts to corral the cat. The work was continuing early Friday afternoon.
Multiple streets in the area were closed while the effort continued.
