An investigation was underway Tuesday after a suspect allegedly armed with a knife was fatally shot by Glendale Police Department officers.
Officers were called at 9:07 p.m. Monday to the 3700 block of Honolulu Avenue at Lowell Avenue, west of the Foothill (210) Freeway, regarding a report of an assault with a deadly weapon involving a knife, according to Sgt. Gaik Pobokhian of the Glendale Police Department.
“Upon arrival, officers located a victim who had sustained injuries consistent with an assault involving a knife,” Pobokhian said “The suspect, who was a neighbor of the victim, then exited a nearby residence armed with a knife. When confronted by officers, the suspect fled on foot.”
Officers pursued the suspect on foot and during the pursuit the suspect allegedly turned and advanced toward the officers, while still armed with the knife.
One or more officers opened fire, striking the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.
Paramedics took the knifing victim to a hospital, where he was treated for what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.
The 3600 and 3700 blocks of Honolulu near the freeway were closed through the early morning Tuesday due to the shooting investigation, Pobokhian said.
