Investigators in Glendale have tracked down a gunman who shot and wounded a victim in Glendale, police said Tuesday.
It took less than 12 hours to bring the suspect into custody following the shooting at 1:50 a.m. Saturday, according to the Glendale Police Department.
Officers responded to the 200 block of North Brand Boulevard after getting a report of a man with a gun. They found a man with a gunshot wound who was taken to a hospital by Glendale Fire Department personnel, where he remained in critical but stable condition.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and suspect, who were previously unknown to one another, became involved in a verbal altercation,” police said. “During the incident, the suspect brandished a firearm towards the victim. A physical confrontation then occurred, during which a single shot was fired, striking the victim.”
The suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Ricardo Fernandez of North Hollywood, allegedly fled in a vehicle before officers arrived.
Glendale Police Department Robbery-Homicide detectives responded and identified the suspect, who was arrested at his home around 2 p.m. the same day, police said.
Fernandez was booked into the city jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury, and the case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
