A fire broke out Thursday at a church in Hemet, with at least one person evaluated for a minor medical complaint.

The blaze was reported at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the 26000 block of Girard Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency stated arriving crews encountered smoke and heavy fire coming from the roof of Cornerstone Church, and a second alarm was requested to help douse the flames.

Additional units, including 10 engines and a truck, were requested at the scene, according to the department.

The extent of the person’s injuries was not immediately known. Further medical care was declined.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
