A woman in her 20s was killed when a bullet was fired through a bedroom window struck her while she slept, police announced Tuesday.
Officers responded at approximately 3:30 a.m. Sunday to the 400 block of West 103rd Street, near Grand Avenue, in South Los Angeles to reports of shots fired, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Details about what led up to the fatal shooting remain limited. Police said Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived at the location, where they pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
There was no identification of a suspect and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
A GoFundMe campaign created by a family member identified the victim as Maria Luisa Barrios and has raised more than $1,800.
“This sudden and heartbreaking event has left her family devastated and struggling to cope with the loss,” the organizer said in a statement, adding that Barrios was a mother to a 1-year-old daughter, who now has an ”uncertain future without her mother,” and that Barrios’ death has been felt deeply by everyone who knew her.
