A 36-year-old man was charged Monday with killing his mother with a hammer in Laguna Beach.
Safford Wolfson was charged with murder with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon — a hammer.
Officers were called about 11 a.m. Monday to a home in the 1300 block of Dunning Drive, a canyon-adjacent road off of Temple Hills Drive, where 61-year-old Angela Caprioli of Maine was found dead, police said.
It was unclear what prompted the attack.
Wolfson did not enter a plea at his arraignment Monday in the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach. The hearing was rescheduled for Oct. 1.
His bail was set at $1 million.
